1978 - There was a dream! A section of LSIB's Physical Development Plan included building a golf course. LSIB's Vision: to become one of the biggest employers in this region with hopes to see improvement in the lives of their people as well as others in the surrounding area through having access to meaningful well paying jobs in a variety of careers.
1994 - Planning began with Les Ferber to design a championship golf course.
1995 - At a general band meeting, overwhelming support was given to designate 500 acres of Band Land for the golf course. Wayne Carleton, architect of Cooke, Carleton International redesigns the golf course. Clearing the land starts to take place.
2004 - The golf course project is resurrected. The name "Talking Rock" is selected by the Band in recognition of their ancestors who often recorded historic events and legends by painting or carving on large rocks, know as pictographs.
2005 - Golf Course consultant, Jeff Shaw is hired as project manager and construction starts in August.
2006 - After employing up to 50 people-from project manager, superintendent of maintenance, machine operators, ditch diggers, pipe layers, seeders, maintenance workers right down to the finishing crew, the last of the 18 holes is seeded as of October 13, 2006.
Present - As a result, the LSIB are proud owners of a championship
Tournament style 18 hole golf course. The high quality design offers
diverse challenges for the scratch golfer as well as the professional
golfer. The golf course will promote all the amenities that the Quaaout
Lodge Resort offers.
